Wellbond® - Technology for Eliminating Absorption using Hydrocarbon-based Solutions (HBS)
If drilling fluid absorption occurs:
STEP 1: Determine the absorption zone
STEP 2: Prepare a pack of WELLBOND® resin
STEP 3: Position the bit above or opposite the absorption zone
STEP 4: Pump a pack of WELLBOND® grout through the DRILLING TOOL (no need for a SPO to change the assembly)
STEP 5: Pump in a buffer – a separating liquid (RUO base – oil, diesel, mineral oil, etc.) to prevent contact of the resin with the brine in the pipes
STEP 6: Inject calcium chloride (CaCL2) brine
STEP 7: Ensure that the WELLBOND® pack and brine are displaced from the drill pipe
STEP 8: Close the preventer and gradually begin forcing the brine through the WELLBOND® resin pack (at a maximum pressure of 3 atm)
STEP 9: Let stand for 1-2 hours
When CaCl2 brine and WELLBOND® resin interact, an impermeable barrier (rubber-like mass) is formed.
STEP 10: Continue drilling without loss of fluid
