Overview:
For drilling wells using the rotary method, cutting and crushing bits are used as a rock cutting tool. Cutting bits are two-, three- and multi-blade .
Depending on the location of the washing holes, the bits are divided into ordinary and with lower washing, in which the washing hole is located closer to the blade, which helps to destroy the face and better clean the blade from sticking rock.
Two-bladed bits are used mainly for drilling in soft clay rocks and sands, three-bladed bits - for drilling soft and medium hard rocks. The cutting surface of a three-blade bit is 1.5 times larger than that of a two-blade bit, so its performance is slightly larger. Three-blade bits round off better and bend less well.
Multi-blade bits are used for drilling hard and super-hard rock. During drilling, the bit performs rotational and translational movements, therefore each point lying on the cutting edge of the bit describes a helical line in space, making a path the length of which is the greater, the farther the point is located from the axis of rotation. It follows that the wear of the blade is uneven. The greatest wear is observed on the periphery, the smallest - in the central part. When using paddle bits, rock destruction occurs along one exposure surface. However, it is known that an increase in the number of outcrop planes changes the nature of the deformation of rocks, which contributes to their better destruction. Based on this, the design of a stepped bit is developed.
PDC bits are bits made using the latest water, oil, or geothermal drilling technology. Chisels are made of stainless steel and reinforced with diamond polycrystalline cutters. The size and number of incisors depends on the number of blades and the diameter of the bit. These bits have high wear resistance and give high penetration rates (2-3 times higher than conventional roller cone bits).
The location of the chisel cutters allows you to provide a balanced load on the rock and get a clearly round well and to avoid the effect of turbulence of the bit.
