AMP 180‑4B (Three‑Phase Asynchronous Squirrel‑Cage motor, square frame)

The AMP 180‑4B is a three‑phase asynchronous motor with a die‑cast aluminium squirrel‑cage rotor, part of the AMP square frame series specifically developed for variable speed drive applications to achieve dynamic performance comparable to DC motors. The motor features a fully laminated stator core with low‑loss electrical steel and a skewed rotor design that ensures smooth running, low torque ripple, and excellent heat transfer through multiple internal cooling channels. It is built with Class H insulation materials while operating at a Class F temperature rise, providing a significant thermal safety margin, and is equipped with PTC thermistors (150°C) in the stator winding for reliable overtemperature protection. The winding is specially conceived to withstand the high voltage peaks (du/dt) generated by modern inverters, making it suitable for demanding variable frequency drive operations. Standard cooling is provided by an axial forced ventilation system (IC416) in IP55, but radial ventilation (IC06) and optional heat exchanger configurations (IC666, IC86W) are also available on request. The motor complies with IEC 60034 standards and offers a wide constant power speed range (up to 3000 rpm field weakening) with overload capacity of 160% FLT for one minute. Mounting flexibility includes standard foot mounting (IM1001) and flange mounting (IM2001), with options for custom shafts, encoders (HTL/TTL, up to 65536 ppr), space heaters, and bearing protection rings for currents above 100kW to mitigate shaft voltage damage.
