Metal turning is a technology that gives a product the required shapes and sizes. The processing process involves gradually removing an excess layer of metal from the workpiece until it acquires the specified parameters, according to the drawings. Turning work is performed using modern machines and auxiliary tools. Cutting tools include various cutters and drills. Working on a lathe involves rotating the workpiece fixed in a chuck, with the effect of cutting tools on the product to give the desired configuration. Technological features on a lathe allow you to perform the following operations: cutting rectangular and triangular threads; obtaining any hole diameter; obtaining grooves by turning the surface of the product; cutting off workpieces of a given length. Lathes have wide functionality, due to which unique parts made according to individual standards are obtained. Nuts with different threads; washers of different thicknesses and diameters; pulleys from any alloys; couplings are produced on a lathe. A set of measuring tools allows for control over the specified dimensions. Using these values as a guide, the turner processes the workpiece. The main measuring tools include calipers, limit gauges, and bore gauges. Different types of cutters are used depending on the method of processing products. Straight cutters are used to remove chips from the outer part of the workpiece. Processing of a cylindrical configuration occurs with the interaction of a stop tool. To cut off a part of the workpiece, a cut-off cutter is selected that can handle workpieces of any thickness. The screw-cutting lathe has become one of the common models, widely used in enterprises. The multifunctionality of the machine is expressed in the presence of two units, front and rear, a gearbox, and a universal bed. Modern models operate under the control of computer programs. The control unit allows you to automate many operations, increase work efficiency, reduce processing time and, as a result, improve the quality and quantity of products.
