Paddle bits
Chisels are equipped with cutters reinforced with carbide inserts for drilling in rocks of various categories: cutters of type "M" - for rocks of I-III categories of drillability cutters of type "MS" - for rocks of II-IV categories of drillability of drillings of type "C" for rocks of III-V categories for drillability. To prevent narrowing of the borehole, the bits are equipped with calibrating weapons in the form of carbide pins. The working surfaces of the blades are protected from abrasion by hard metal hardfacing.
Vane bits provide mechanical drilling speeds that are 2.5 times higher than the drilling speeds with cone bits while reducing the necessary axial load on the rock cutting tool by more than 10 times; have increased wear resistance due to reinforcement with carbide pins and surfacing; possess increased maintainability due to the possibility of replacing the cutters directly in the field.
The consumer reports on the experience of using vane bits with a diameter of 244 mm and 295.3 mm when drilling with direct washing of domestic water supply wells: work was carried out in the Samara region, the design depth of the wells was 35 m. Replacing the cone bits with vane allowed to reduce the time required for drilling in loams and dense clay 2 times.
