The Flow Scanner field logging tool is designed to evaluate the three-phase inflow profile in deviated and horizontal wells. It uses a set of sensors working in contact with the produced fluid phases. Complex flow regimes are quantified at the bottom, by a better interpretation of the dynamics of the phases, regardless of the mixing of phases at the bottom or the presence of fluid recirculation
Overview:

Standard field logging systems that record data in the central part of the flow cross section using a single flow meter are usually suitable for evaluating simple flow patterns in vertical wells. But when assessing the complex flow regime in deviated wells, such complexes do not provide all the necessary information for a qualitative and full-fledged assessment of the movement of fluid phases in the column. In such wells, the Flow Scanner helps to conduct a more detailed assessment of the inflow profile. Miniature flowmeters, electrical and optical sensors of the Flow Scanner, located along the vertical axis of the flow section, allow you to capture and explore the flow from all sides. The sensors are close enough to each other, which allows measurements at the same depth at the same time.

Integration of velocity measurements and phase percentages in complex flow conditions

Five miniature flowmeters of the Flow Scanner make local fluid velocity measurements, which makes it possible to calculate the multiphase flow velocity profile. Flowmeters include bearings with a low coefficient of friction, which makes them susceptible to even small changes in speed.

Electrical and optical sensors determine the phase of the fluid at the bottom and measure its percentage in the stream. Six electrical sensors distinguish water from hydrocarbons, and six optical sensors distinguish gas from liquid.

The integration of velocity measurements and the percentage of phases makes it possible to obtain a multiphase inflow profile in the well. In addition to accurately determining the flow regime, fluid delivery sites and its recirculation sites are also identified.

The rational combination of hoisting operations

Flow Scanner can be used in wells with downhole pressures up to 1020 atm. and temperature up to 150 0 С during descent in one bundle with other devices in cased wells. The device can be lowered into wells with a diameter of 73 mm or more. up to more than 229 mm. using a cable, coiled tubing or downhole tractor.
