What is a drilling pump used for? Oilfield operations regularly require the pumping of various fluids, and this is precisely what a drilling pump is used for. We say "fluids" because it's not always water: in some applications, specialized solutions are used, the composition of which can vary. When drilling rock, when a well is just beginning to form, a large amount of excavated soil, rock fragments, etc., accumulates inside the wellbore. All of this must be removed from the wellbore to facilitate drilling. The pump injects water or drilling fluid into the wellbore under high pressure. Even when a well is already in production, repairs and reinforcement may be necessary, so pumping units must be readily accessible on-site. The pressure generated by the drilling pump is also used to increase well output. As the well's lifespan decreases, so does the oil pressure. A special solution is then pumped into the formation. Operating Principle: To initiate fluid movement from the source to the consumer, a system of cylinders is used. Depending on their number, volume, and process features, the pump can generate greater or lesser pressure. But the pumping process itself is always the same: At the beginning of the cycle, the inlet valve opens, and the piston begins to move backward; Due to the created negative pressure, the cylinder fills with liquid; When the piston reaches its stop and the cylinder is completely filled, the inlet valve closes and the outlet valve opens; The piston begins to move forward, pushing the liquid out of the cylinder. To prevent the water from flowing in spurts, which are harmful to equipment and can cause water hammer, the cylinders are adjusted with a phase shift. Therefore, at any given moment, one of them draws in liquid, while the other pushes it out. The flow is continuous and at a constant speed. Device: On drilling rigs, it is crucial that each unit is reliable, durable, and operates smoothly. Therefore, engineers paid close attention to the NB-80's design: Everything is mounted on a fairly heavy and stable base. When secured, vibration between the structural elements is minimized. A drive unit is used to transmit the required engine power to the pistons. Essentially, this is a crank mechanism that converts rotary motion into linear motion. The hydraulic unit is located separately, but on the same base, so power loss is minimal and efficiency is very high. The arrangement of the components is a special consideration. Since the pump will need to be connected to an existing or emerging system of other equipment, the manufacturer typically offers two design options: with pulleys and couplings on the left or right. You choose which design is most suitable for you. This particular pump provides bidirectional movement. This means you won't need to disconnect and connect the pump during different cycles, stop pumping, or drain the fluid. The design of specific components may vary significantly between units, but the principle is the same.
