Commercial Aircraft Engine CFM56-5B

The CFM56-5B is the engine of choice for the A320 family, having been selected to power nearly 60 percent of the aircraft ordered. Today, it is the only engine that can power every model of the A320 family with one bill of materials. The engine’s broad-based market acceptance has been because of its simple, rugged architecture, which gives it the highest reliability, durability and reparability in its class. Customer needs propel CFM’s technology investments. When new technologies mature, CFM incorporates the advances into production standards and re-invigorate the fleet already flying through upgrade kits. In 2007, Tech Insertion became the production configuration for all CFM56-5B engines, further providing operators with significant improvements in fuel consumption, emissions levels, and maintenance costs.
