Tocardo
Tocardo is a Dutch tidal power company headquartered in Den Oever, Netherlands. The company was founded in 2008 as a spin-off from Teamwork Technology following technology development that began in 1999. Tocardo specializes in the development, design, and manufacture of tidal turbines for power generation from flowing water. The company offers a portfolio of horizontal-axis turbines including the T-1 (50-100 kW), T-2 (100-250 kW), and T-2si/T-3 (up to 700 kW). Tocardo turbines feature a two-bladed bi-directional rotor design with a patented passive pitch mechanism and direct drive permanent magnet generator. In 2015, Tocardo installed the world’s largest commercial tidal array with five turbines in the Oosterscheldekering. The company is fully owned by HydroWing Ltd and QED Naval Ltd, forming a tripartite partnership. Tocardo has acquired IHC Tidal Energy (2014) and Swanturbines IP (2015) to strengthen its market position. The company aims to reduce the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) through standardized, scalable turbine designs.
