Gantry cranes are used for loading and unloading operations in industrial and warehouse open areas. The crane runway for a gantry crane is a rail laid on a sleeper or a concrete pad on the ground. Gantry cranes can be controlled either from the crane operator's cabin or by cable or remote control. Gantry cranes can be single-girder or double-girder. The lifting mechanism on single-girder cranes is most often an electric hoist, and on double-girder cranes a crane trolley is installed.
