Hydrogen-cooled turbo Generators

Hydrogen is a unique cooling medium for rotating electrical machines. It combines three essential properties: low density, high specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity. The use of hydrogen allows for the creation of compact, highly efficient, reliable and durable designs. NPO ELSIB supplies generators with hydrogen cooling of the TVF type of a single unified series. A significant part of the installed electric capacity of thermal power plants in Russia falls on generators of this type. The first machine with this type of cooling was manufactured by NPO ELSIB in 1955. The generator model TV2-30-2 worked at the Barnaul TPP for about 60 years. TVF type generators have the longest park resource and have proven their reliability and durability in practice. The gas-tight one-piece generator casing is a durable sealed cylindrical structure. The tightness of the connection of the casing and shields, as well as the oil seals of the rotor shaft, eliminate hydrogen leaks. Hydrogen circulating inside the generator housing removes heat from the active parts and is then cooled in water gas coolers, which are built into the generator housing horizontally. Hydrogen movement inside the turbogenerator is provided by axial fans located on both sides of the rotor shaft. The multi-jet cooling system creates a uniform, rational distribution of hydrogen along the entire length of the generator. The rotor winding cooling system is self-ventilated, with cooling hydrogen intake from the gap area between the stator and the rotor. The internal volume of hydrogen-cooled generators is reliably isolated from the external atmosphere so that dust, moisture, salt, and other aggressive environments do not affect the active parts of the machine. Our customer receives equipment that meets the most modern requirements - the development of hydrogen-cooled turbogenerators supplied by our plant occurs along an evolutionary path simultaneously with the development of materials and technologies.
