Description:
The OSWALD torque motor is a permanent magnet synchronous motor with annular geometry and a hollow shaft, incorporating rare‑earth magnets. As a direct drive, it eliminates the need for gearboxes, offering high torque at low speeds with high efficiency and low maintenance. The motor is designed for applications that require high starting torque and precise speed control without mechanical transmission elements. The hollow shaft allows cables, media, or laser beams to be routed directly through the motor. The torque motor can be equipped with an integrated holding brake, an encoder for precise positioning, and either air or liquid cooling depending on the thermal requirements. OSWALD has developed torque motors up to 150,000 Nm, with a typical example being a 50,000 Nm motor that can lift 5 tonnes on a 1 m lever arm at only 50 rpm. Applications include rotary tables, shredders, wire saws, rubber mixers, and test benches.
