OAO NPO Drilling Equipment (Vniibt)

The history of OAO NPO Burovaya Technika begins in 1953, when, according to the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, VNIIBurnefte was organized, and since 1957 it was renamed VNIIBT (All-Union Scientific Research Institute Burovaya Technika).

In 1980, by Order of the USSR Ministry of Oil and Industry, VNIIBT was appointed the country's leading institute for the construction of oil and gas wells.

An order of the Ministry of Oil and Oil Industry in 1991 created the State Enterprise NPO Burovaya Technika, the head structural unit of which was determined by VNIIBT. In 1996, by order of the Mosimushchestvo, this enterprise was transformed into OAO Drilling Equipment.

Over the years, VNIIBT has made an outstanding contribution to the creation of new drilling equipment and technology, as well as to the preparation of highly qualified scientists for the industry.

Among the large number of R&D completed and implemented in the oil and gas industry of the country, it is worth highlighting:

- creation of downhole hydraulic motors (turbodrills and screw engines) and the technology of their operation;

- creation of rock cutting tools for drilling oil, gas wells and mining industry;

- the creation of equipment and technology for the construction of directional and horizontal wells, as well as sidetracks;

- project development and engineering support for the construction of the Kola ultra-deep record well SG-3 with a depth of 12262 m.

Licenses for turbodrills, screw engines, and oil fittings developed at VNIIBT were purchased by leading engineering and service companies in North America, Europe and Japan.

For outstanding achievements and contribution to the development of domestic drilling equipment and technology VNIIBT in 1971 was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

At present, OAO Drilling Equipment OJSC employs highly qualified specialists, doctors and candidates of sciences. The team solves the complex, relevant engineering and scientific challenges facing the oil and gas industry.
