The GSP Deep Driller is an ultra-deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig designed by Friede & Goldman (ExD design). It entered service in 2005 and is classed by ABS (A1, AMS, DPS-2). The rig is capable of operating in water depths up to 7,500 ft (2,286 m) and drilling to 37,500 ft (11,430 m). It accommodates 176 persons and features a DP2+ dynamic positioning system. The rig is heavily involved in complex deepwater developments, including subsea construction, installation of trees, manifolds, flowline jumpers, and ROV tooling runs. Its innovative use of a modified anchor winch as a deep-reach subsea winch allows significant time savings by eliminating the need for a heavy lift barge during pipeline end termination (PLET) installation.
