The Mi-26T is a multi-purpose, wide-body transport helicopter designed to transport equipment and large-sized cargo weighing up to 20 tons both inside the cargo compartment and on an external sling. The helicopter was developed by Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant and has been mass-produced at Rostvertol since 1980. The Mi-26T helicopter is designed according to the classic scheme with a tail rotor. The power plant includes two D-136 turboshaft gas-turbine engines. The engine's power characteristics allow the helicopter to be effectively used in a wide range of altitudes and ambient temperatures, as well as to perform horizontal flight with one engine running and to land. The design, equipment and systems of the Mi-26T helicopter allow it to be operated at any time of the day, day and night, in simple and adverse weather conditions, over plains, hilly and mountainous terrain. No special airfield maintenance facilities are required to operate the helicopter (special ladders, engine and gearbox cowlings in the open position are ladders) and the helicopter is capable of long-term autonomous basing. The auxiliary power unit of the helicopter provides autonomous engine starting, power supply of mechanisms during loading and unloading operations, checking of on-board equipment, air conditioning in the crew cabin, heating in the cargo compartment and ventilation of the cargo compartment on the ground during loading and unloading of self-propelled equipment. The power plant has systems for automatically maintaining the speed of the main rotor and synchronizing the engine power. If one engine fails, the power of the other increases to the maximum, which ensures the possibility of a safe landing with a full load. The engines are equipped with dust protection devices that protect the gas-air tract from dust and dirt. The helicopter's hydraulic system ensures the operation of combined control units (CCU) and power drives of other units. The pneumatic system ensures wheel braking and a sealing system for the openings of the crew cabins and accompanying persons. The anti-icing system allows flights to be performed in icing conditions. The helicopter has oxygen equipment for the crew and accompanying persons. The helicopter is equipped with effective fire-fighting equipment, emergency rescue equipment, as well as a system for recording flight modes and the operation of systems and units.
